The best shopping in Maui means luxury designer boutiques, local art galleries, and surf shops right on the beach. Whether you need to replace something you forgot to pack, find the perfect souvenir, or spend an afternoon browsing between swims, the island has options for every mood and budget.
A quick note before you go: the 2023 Lahaina wildfires changed the shopping landscape on the west side of Maui. The Outlets of Maui on Front Street were destroyed and remain closed. This guide reflects what’s open and welcoming visitors as of 2026.
Whalers Village is the anchor shopping destination on Maui’s west side. It’s also one of the most unique retail experiences anywhere in Hawaii. Whalers sits right on Kaanapali Beach. You can browse shops, grab lunch, and walk along one of the island’s most beautiful stretches of sand. All in the same afternoon!
With over 90 stores and restaurants, there’s a solid mix of well-known brands and Maui-specific shops. Look for Tommy Bahama, Lululemon, and Sephora alongside local favorites like Keani Hawaii and Maui Waterwear. For dining, Leilani’s on the Beach and Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman are both excellent options with great ocean views.
The center also hosts free hula shows and cultural events throughout the week. An exciting bonus if you’re browsing with family!
For the most upscale shopping in Maui, The Shops at Wailea is the destination. This open-air center in South Maui features over 70 stores. This includes luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, Saint Laurent, and Tiffany & Co. It also includes a strong selection of Hawaii-specific shops.
And don’t miss the locally made or island-inspired finds. Na Hoku (Hawaiian jewelry), Mele Ukulele, Maui Hands, Martin & MacArthur, and Maui Jim sunglasses. It’s a good mix of international luxury and genuine Maui character.
Dining here is a highlight too. Lineage brings inventive Asian-American cuisine to the lineup, and the Waikiki Brewing Co. is a solid casual option. Free hula shows run on Tuesday evenings, and art nights happen the first Saturday of each month.

Makawao – Upcountry Maui
If you want shopping that feels genuinely local, Makawao is worth the drive up into Upcountry Maui. This small paniolo (cowboy) town is home to a cluster of independent boutiques and galleries. You’ll also enjoy specialty shops that you won’t find anywhere else on the island.
Look for Hot Island Glass (a working glassblowing studio and gallery) or Driftwood for a fun stop. Fleur De Lei also hosts a rotating cast of local artists and makers. The whole strip takes about an hour to wander. It pairs especially well with a stop at Hali’imaile General Store nearby for lunch or dinner.
It’s a completely different vibe from the resort shopping centers – quieter, more eclectic, and much more Maui.
Paia – North Shore
Paia is Maui’s North Shore surf town, and the shopping reflects that energy. The main strip along Baldwin Avenue is lined with independent surf shops, boutiques, and galleries with a relaxed, creative feel.
It’s a great place to pick up surf and beach gear or locally made jewelry. The vintage finds and art are all from island-based artists. After you’ve browsed, Mama’s Fish House is just down the road – a natural pairing for a special lunch or dinner.
Maui Mall & Queen Ka'ahumanu Center – Kahului
If you need everyday essentials or prefer familiar chain stores, Kahului has two indoor malls worth knowing about.
Maui Mall has a TJ Maxx, Hawaiian Island Creations, a movie theater. It also has several dining options, including Whole Foods Market. This is great for stocking up on groceries or picking up something practical.
Queen Ka’ahumanu Center is the larger of the two, with stores like Macy’s, Bath & Body Works, and a food court. It also has a movie theater and a children’s play area. Perfect for a rainy day with kids.
Neither of these will be the highlight of your trip. But they’re convenient, centrally located, and sometimes exactly what you need.
